Builders Club is a small operation and we don't do anything clever with your data. This is what we collect, why, who sees it, and how to get it changed or deleted. It covers members, applicants, newsletter subscribers, event attendees, and anyone who fills out one of our forms.
When you apply or join: your name, email, phone, what you're building, where you're at with it, what you want out of the club, and your LinkedIn or other links. If you're a student, your school, program, and expected graduation.
When you pay: Stripe handles your card. We never see the full number. We see your name, email, what you're paying for, and payment status.
While you're a member: your Slack activity in our workspace, your member directory profile (which you write and control), your Hive 1-on-1 preferences and match history, event registrations, and fob access logs (which door, what time). If you host an event, your attendee list, because you're required to share it with us.
Around events and the space: photos and video. We take them, we use them, and the Membership Terms and our event registration checkbox cover how to opt out.
Newsletter: your email and whether you open or click. That's it.
We don't collect anything we don't need to run the club, and we don't buy data about you from anyone.
To run the club: get you in the door, bill you, match you with other members, invite you to things, and keep the space secure. To tell you what's going on: the newsletter and Slack. To make the club better: understanding who's here and what's working. To meet our obligations: tax records, and sorting out disputes if they come up.
We use your information for what you'd expect given why you gave it to us. If we want to use it for something else we'll ask.
Other members. The directory and Slack are visible to paying members. What you put in your profile is your call.
Hiring partners. If you're a student member, being on the co-op shortlist is part of the deal, so your name, program, profile, and what you're building go to partner companies who are hiring. If you're a professional member, we only make an introduction when you've said yes to that specific one. We don't hand out the member list.
Sponsors. They get aggregate numbers: how many people, roughly what they do. Not names, not emails, unless you registered for their event through them.
The tools we run on. Stripe (billing), Slack (community), Notion and Airtable (records), Brevo (newsletter), Tally (forms), Luma (events), Google Workspace (calendar, mail, drive), and Hive (1-on-1 matching). Most of these are US companies with servers outside Canada, which means your information can be subject to the laws where it's stored. Each one is bound by its own privacy terms and only processes data on our behalf.
Nobody else, unless the law requires it or Builders Club changes hands, in which case your data goes with it under these same rules.
We don't sell your information. We don't rent it. We don't trade it.
